Week 5: Bringing Things Together

Thinking about who I am as a creative:

What questions do you explore/ask as a function of your practice and how?

  • I want to create film and television content particularly content that would be available on streaming platforms because that seems to be the future of digital media content.
  • Documentary making is a big interest of mine. I’d love to create documentaries that don’t follow a stock standard formula of presenting information. I’m currently creating a documentary where I have added a youtube vlog style personal twist.
  • Anything to do with comedy interests me. From content creation to performance art.

What key influences, mentors, or peers inform your practice?

  • My TAFE teacher Mike has been a great influence in supporting my vision when it comes to film making.
  • When it comes to famous artists/creatives the following influence me:
  • Amy Poehler
  • Tin Fey
  • Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer
  • Martin McDonagh
  • Edgar Wright

Completed professional profile bio:

My name is Clare Corcoran and I’m a Digital Media Content Creator. What does this mean exactly? Well I work in creative collaboration in the digital media field specialising in production and directing of video content. I create content ranging from video, photography, installation work, graphic design and animation. My main interests lie in but are not limited to, developing new forms of Situation Comedy for small screen in the age of streaming platforms and investigative documentary making.

I am a graduate of the Bachelor of Digital Media program at the University of Wollongong. I also hold an Advanced Diploma and Diploma in Screen and Media, and a statement of attainment in Directing and Production Management. I am currently a Director and Producer’s Assistant at WIN Television Network in Wollongong, which sees me operating the autocue for the virtual news department. I am also currently in production of my own short documentary No Notifications, which explores the interesting effects of our virtual relationships on our off screen, real life relationships.

My drive to work in the Digital Media field, particularly in production and direction, stems from many creative inspirations. I am very influenced by the comedic works of Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Abbi Jacobson, Ilana Glazer, Martin McDonagh and Edgar Wright, only to name a few. These creatives all explore comedy in a different way. I have always enjoyed every aspect of humour and it’s immeasurable effect on people, whether that is bringing people closer together or making us engage in dialogue for change through a unique lens.

Documentary maker Michael Moore and the creators of the podcast series This American Life, influence my aspirations to explore the investigative documentary field. Whether that is through video or podcast content.

As a Digital Media Content Creator, I endeavour to explore the exciting renewed interests in small screens via video streaming platforms particularly in the field of Sitcom and the underlying social commentary it can present.

Thanks for taking the time to learn a little about me.
